Homes of Hope: Oasis Church Kona
This Summer, Oasis Church from Kona, Hawaii, came to Mazatlan to build with Homes of Hope. This is the home church of some great friends, Uncle Paul and Aunty Doreen Chinen from Holoholo Ministries at YWAM Ships Kona, who led the team. Every time teams come from Hawaii, it is special, but this trip the boys (Koa specifically) really connected with Uncle Kawika (pictured second from the left). They connected on the build, went fishing in their free time, and Koa has continued to stay in touch with him. Now they are planning on fishing and hunting the next time we go to Kona.
Stories like this remind us of the many reasons why we love short-term mission trips. As the receiving missionaries, we have the opportunity to build relationships with people we don’t know. The teams get to have a first-hand experience of what God is doing in Mexico, and families in Mazatlan are blessed.
