Yelapa deployment
We try to make it a point to deploy on the M/V Amazing Grace at least once a year. This year in April, I (Ikaika) took Koa and Noah and their friend Tiloh to Yelapa on a ten day deployment. We joined an outreach team from the January DTS and did ministry in Yelapa and some of the neighboring communities. One of my highlights of the trip was seeing the boys climb up to Monkey Island (the roof above the pilot house) to have quiet time every morning after breakfast. They would go up, read scripture, discuss it, and then have a time to pray together.
During the day, ministry varied from playing soccer with local kids to ministry at small groups and churches, or evangelism on the beach. On one occasion, a young kid that the boys had met on a previous trip drove his panga out to see the boys. Before I knew it, they were loading up their fishing gear and headed out of the bay. Ministry in places like Yelapa is slow and relational, so it was fun to see Koa and Noah using one of their passions (fishing) to connect and make friends.
